The Emma Animal Rescue Society (TEARS) is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of neglected and abandoned animals and has had tremendous success in their efforts to improve the lives of animals around the Cape metropole. They are also instrumental in providing sterilization and veterinary services to animals in the disadvantaged communities of the Southern Peninsula. Their pro-life policy offers a second chance to all those rescued four legged friends. However, this policy places enormous strain on their resources with up to 180 dogs and 120 cats in their care at any one time.

CANSA is the only organisation that offers research, education and support that is integrated to form our service. Apart from the only cancer control body that does research, we have an extensive health programme, especially for Women’s Health programme that is very active. Some people may think we only do research, but we use our research to determine what our health programmes should be and apply this knowledge practically to provide education and support as well as be the ‘watchdog’ for South Africans to help reduce the cancer risk.
· Our Women’s Health logo is not only pink, its turquoise, to denote all female cancers. Although breast cancer has the highest incidence affecting women in SA, the reality is that cervical cancer is the second highest affecting women in SA, especially amongst black women. That’s why we combine. And the bulk of our activities are focused around breast cancer and raising awareness and helping women to be more informed and manage their health. What is relevant to note, is that there are many ‘pink’ groups out there, and our organisation is relevant in South Africa and we can offer an edge to others as the usual pink ribbon logo is not registered and any national or international group can use the pink logo. So ours is a bit more exclusive.
